Dear Super Bitch

Dear Super Bitch Waitress (curly red/brown hair) @ Red Lion Tavern,

I don't know you and I don't know what I did to piss you off on Friday the 25th.  I stopped by the tavern to celebrate my friend Larry's birthday, I was in a great mood but thanks to your mean service and bitchy attitude... You ruined the birthday celebration... Thanks a lot.

Since I don't know your name, can I call you Kyle's mom?

I think you should look for a new career.  You are suppose to be a German peasant, not a diva with a stick up your ass.  Your job is to explain what is on tap, take food orders, make recommendations, distribute dining utensils to hungry people, and smile!  Well, you've failed all...when a customer ask you questions about what the restaurant is currently serving, DON'T flip the menu over, point at it and tell the customer to read whats in the menu... Or when a customer ask you if you can start a separate tab, DON'T embarrass the customer by rejecting her because she's not a regular customer...  Also, it's NOT cool after all the shenanigans you've pulled and you still add the gratuity in the check... I mean seriously! WTF is wrong with you!  Do you really think you DESERVE tips after you bitched out the whole table? do you? really?

Maybe you should look into yoga to calm your soul... Wait?! what?! Your other job is a yoga instructor??? well, you should quit that job too, cuz you are way too angry to be teaching anyone anything... you are just a MEAN MEAN MEAN person!

Next time when I visit Red Lion Tavern, I hope I don't see you again... Please resign, quit or get fired. If not, I will definitely do my best in my power to get you fired :)

Thank you,

Joe Chang

NOTE TO MY SINCERE READERS:
next time when you guys want to hit up Red Lions Tavern... GO UP STAIRS to the beer garden to avoid the Super Bitch.

the sausage plate
This is the sausage platter... I was really excited about this food, but the mean bitchy waitress ruined my appetite... I can probably blame her for the poor lighting while I'm at it.

the beer garden
Upstairs at the beer garden is the place to be! No mean waitress up here! only fun people and good booze!

makers 46
They have Makers 46!

Red Lion Tavern is a great place! Don't get me wrong, I have no problem whatsoever with the tavern... Just that one waitress in particular :)

New Capital Seafood Restaurant

This is probably one of the better Dim Sum restaurants in Southern California. If you get a chance to explore SGV, you must check out New Capital Seafood Restaurant!

My advice is DO NOT go on Sundays! Especially around lunch time... One time we showed up on a Sunday early afternoon... the line was... well, it wasn't much of a line, its more like a mosh pit of a bunch of hungry Chinese people.

I apologize in advance for such a short written blog post... but I think the photos alone will convince you to hit up New Capital this weekend :)

Far Far Away!

Far Bar in Little Tokyo should not serve food.

Everything about this little joint is dope, except for the food.
So, when you want to meet someone at Far Bar make sure you eat at Daikokuya before you head over!

And when you meet Bobby the bartender, remember to tip him extra! He is probably one of my favorite bartenders in Los Angeles!

THE GOOD (great ambiance and booze service)
check out their MAN VS SAKE event !!! see if you are bad ass enough to make the wall of fame!

Wood & Vine

Wood & Vine is across the street from The Pantages, next door to the new W Hotel.

Wet Hollywood

Do you know what Charcuterie is?

I had no idea what it is till I visited Wood & Vine with my buddies, Jimmy and Brian. According to Wikipedia, charcuterie is basically a type of cooking that celebrates prepared meats and aged cheese on a platter for everyone to enjoy! On the platter you will usually find preserved meats, pates, galantines, and specially aged cheese... I mean... wow!

None of us knew exactly what to order so we pretty much ordered everything on the menu, ha! (well, with the exception of lamb and goat/sheep cheese)

  • Country Pate
  • Chicken Liver Mousse
  • Pork & Olive Rillette
  • Pork Torchon
  • Spring Garlic & Bacon Terrine
  • Point Reye Blue (California cow cheese)
  • Stinking Bishop (England cow cheese)
  • Mustard seeds / pickled cucumber / honey comb

almost done

Oh there's more !!!

Ya know, we ate Bone Marrows... no big deal... as a matter of fact, we all agreed that it was the best dish of the night! definitely a must try if you are a fan of meat.

Bone marrow !!!

We were still hungry, soooooooo we ordered Grilled Scallops with Truffle Grits... again, no big deal.

Scallops !!!

A great meal comes with a great dessert. Well, Jimmy was raving about these Profiteroles... chocolate, puff pastry and ice cream... and yeah... that plate lasted about a minute after it was presented... hah I mean who wouldn't eat that?

Profiteroles

I am so glad Jimmy was kind enough to set up this dinner date for all three of us :) Thanks Jimmy!

Also, I'd like to give a shout out to Mike Di Ricco:
"DUDE! See what happens when you cancel dinner on us? YOU MISSED OUT!!!"

If you want to visit Wood & Vine, make sure you email me first before you go, cuz I'd like to come along, plz :) (eatwithjoe@gmail.com)

No More Japan Drama!

Japan is suffering but all I saw on the social network today was some stupid bitch posting stupid video about how good lowercase-god is... Pearl Harbor karma comments made by professional athletes and the Aflac duck... and everyone else's angry reactions... I mean... really? Japan's gone to shit and we are creating "drama" on the internet... well, because this is my blog and I can say this loud and clear... EFF YOU DRAMA!

Do you know what I did instead of creating drama? I went to Little Tokyo over the weekend and had a nice Japanese dinner with my wife.

Izakaya Haru Ulala
368 E 2nd St
Los Angeles, CA 90189

I try not to recommend too many people to this joint... simply because I would hate myself forever if one of my favorite restaurants gets too crowded and I have to wait in long line to get seated.  And If you do decided to give this place a try, remember to invite me and Beth :)

Pho Sho!

If you are a big fan of pho or Vietnamese food you'll know about this famous spot located in SGV (San Gabriel Valley)... Golden Deli!

Well, Beth and I stumbled upon this new joint in Temple City... its the Golden Deli's little baby...

GOLDEN DELI EXPRESS
815 W Las Tunas Dr
San Gabriel, CA 91776
(626) 308-0803

What's express about it? well, you order your food at a counter... pay... grab your number... then your food will be delivered to your table...  since you've already paid for your food you can just get up and leave when you're done... oh like a fastfood restaurant, duh!

Most importantly, the food is just as delicious as the original restaurant!  And the express restaurant allows you to customize your order :)

Check out the mouth watering photos!

My Lunch is Better Than Yours

My co-worker Roberto brought me a pull pork sandwich from Pecos Bill's BBQ in Glendale. This sandwich is messy but extremely delicious... The sauce is different from any other BBQ sandwiches, they drench your meat with this smokey gravy that's to die for! I think I might want another one in a few hours! sooooo good!

Cleaning Out The Fridge

Warrior Dash is coming up and we need to eat healthier food. I looked in the fridge and there's not much left to cook with... All I could find was tofu, tomatoes, asparagus, onions, and eggs. Well we got our carb and protein... now lets mix em up!

Start with rice... Since it takes about 30-50 minutes to cook a batch of rice with the rice cooker, you should make rice first!

I've decided to experiment with brown rice mixed with multi-grains!  Multi-grains are awesome! it contains vitamins and minerals. And it also help us prevent things like heart disease, certain cancers, and type 2 diabetes.
  • 1/2 cup brown rice
  • 1/2 cup multi grains

Mix the rice and grains together in a rice cooker, add 2 cups of water and press the "cook" button.

If you don't know how to use a rice cooker you can find the instructions here.

Step 1 Prep

  • 2 tomatoes, cut them up like orange slices
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 1 pack of tofu, cut into 1-2 inch cubes
  • 1 bundle of asparagus, chopped into little pieces
  • 2 eggs, beat evenly in a separate bowl
  • 11/2 teaspoon of salt (add more to taste)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil (for the egg)
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil (for the vegetables)
  • 1 cup of water or chicken broth

Step 2 Cook The Eggs

For this dish you have to cook the veggies and eggs separately, then mixed them together later.

Place a deep skillet/pan on the stove and turn on high heat.  Pour the canola oil into the pan, wait about 1-2 minutes or until the oil is hot.  Then you can slowly pour the beat eggs into the pan... Let it sit for about 30 secs, scramble the egg roughly... once it's solidified then you can pour the eggs into a separate container.

Step 3 Stir Fry The Veggies

Place the same pan back on the stove and turn on the high heat.  Pour the canola oil into the pan, wait about 1-2 minutes or until the oil is hot.  Start with onions and asparagus, let it sit in the pan for about 1 minute then you mix in the tomatoes and about 1/2 teaspoon of salt together.  Cover the pan and let everything steam for about 1-2 minutes.

Remove the lid and pour in about 1 cup of water or broth, I used water in this case... to make it more vegetarian :)  let it come to a boil... reduce the heat to medium then cover again... for another 1-2 minutes

Remove the lid again, add the scrambled eggs and the tofu and the rest of the salt.  stir everything up gently... cover for another minute... remember in medium heat.

You are almost done! now remove the lid and add the black pepper... stir one last time and DONE !!!

Step 4 Eat

Get a plate, scoop in some rice, and pour the mix veggies and tofu on top of the rice... now EAT!

The left over food came with me to work the next day :) this makes a great lunch too!
